Tea of the Month – June

Twinings Intensely Buttermint

Yay!! It is finally time for ‘My Tea of the Month’. This is one of my favourite posts to write because I love tea so, so much (you will know this if you follow me on Twitter) and I love finding new teas. I’ve been drinking a lot of tea this month but there is a new favourite I have become addicted to – it swooped in and took first place from another new tea blend I found!

I have been searching for this tea for such a long time! Every time I found myself in a supermarket, I hunted high and low down the tea aisle hoping to stumble across it. And when I finally did, I’m pretty sure fireworks went off in my head (seriously, don’t underestimate my love of tea!). This tea evens smells amazing in the box and I knew instantly I was going to love it.  The fact that it is another Twinings Tea is merely a coincidence; this month their Intensely Buttermint tea (20 teabags, £2.00 from Tesco) has stolen my heart.

As with May’s Tea of the Month, the packaging is every tea lovers dream. I love the fact that yet again, the box securely holds all the tea bags and keeps them together. Once I have opened something, I don’t like having to follow a set of ridiculous folding instructions, trying to create a lid and none of that needs done here – simply a tearaway strip to open the box and job well done! It really is the simple things in life.

One thing I don’t quite understand though: if you go and look at May’s Tea of the Month you will see that all the teabags are loose in the box. With Intensely Buttermint, the tea bags are individually packaged. Why is that? Some of their teas are sold simply as tea bags and others in these ‘envelopes’. I’m not sure if this has anything to do with the tea blend (I may be wrong!) but actually, Intensely Buttermint is the kind of tea that I would take on the go with me. Yep, I am one of those weird people that carry tea bags around with them! There is nothing worse for me than getting to a hotel and not having my favourite teas with me!

Does anyone else like buttermint sweets? I remember my gran always kept an emergency stash in her handbag and from a fairly young age, I loved them. Even now when I travel, particularly on flights, I need to have a bag of buttermint sweets. I guess for me, they are a comforting sweet which bring back the fondest childhood memories. And this tea does exactly the same thing – tastes exactly like a buttermint sweet but in tea form. Perfection.

Mint tea is one of my favourite teas, definitely in my top three (along with chai and green tea) and this infusion of peppermint and vanilla works like a charm. I’m not the biggest vanilla fan, but Twinings have got the balance just right and I can’t really taste the vanilla at all. All I can taste is creamy, buttermint goodness and that is what I love. I don’t know how Twinings have done it, but this tea is so smooth, so creamy, so comforting

Remember Monica in Friends making candy and they were described as being ‘like little drops of heaven?’ Sorry Monica, Intensely Buttermint has just knocked your candy off its podium! If you have a sweet tooth and are looking to cut out chocolate, sweets, cake etc, I would strongly recommend trying this tea (not solely of course, everyone deserves to treat themselves in moderation but I’m not going into all that right now). Now and again when I have thought about having another slice of cake, I have made a cup of this tea instead and for me, it has been just as satisfying!

If you would like to purchase this tea you can do from Tesco here or from Twinings themselves here

Well that’s my Tea of the Month! What teas have you been loving recently? And are there any teas you recommend I try that might make it to a tea of the month post? Comment below or tweet me @thingsarahloves.

Ooh this tea looks nice! Twinings is my favourite brand. I love their green teas, my all time favourite being the apple and pear flavour. I'll look out for this tea next time I'm in Tesco – I was a bit put off when I read that it had vanilla in it as I'm not much of a fan either, but as you said you can't really taste the vanilla it should be ok. I love the packaging too! x

      Hi Helen!

Thanks for commenting. I've never tried Cherry Bakewell but I need to sometime soon! I'm not a huge fan of Bakewell Tarts but in tea form, it might be quite nice!
