I WILL BLOG, TRAVEL AND TAP DANCE MY WAY THROUGH 2018

Crikey, this blog has been neglected pretty badly, huh? And of course, I take full responsibility for this. Part of me became consumed with my craft blog, Scottish Craft Focus, and the other part? Try having stitches in your eye. Okay, okay so most of the time its not too bad but trust me, when one of those little guys decides it wants to break loose and flee the nest, it’s bloody sore. I’m not sure it’s a pain I can easily describe but it begins as a stabbing pain (like you’ve got something in your eye) and develops – well, for me at least – into one side of your face feeling tight, sore and uncomfy. As I’ve gone through this with my left eye (which is now stitch free – I couldn’t cope with stitches in both eyes at the same time), I know it’s not as simple as feeling discomfort and getting my surgeon to remove the stitch (which is done with needles, tweezers and is the best feeling in the world) but it’s waiting until an extreme level of pain is experienced, highlighting the stitch is loose enough to be removed. Confused? Most people are when it comes to my eye chat but I’m now only ten stitches away from getting my glasses. Not bad if you consider in total I’ve had thirty-three stitches in my eyes.

Anyway, enough of the eye chat (although I do write transplant posts if that’s of interest to you) and onto the year ahead. I’ve set myself some goals (I’m not generally a fan of resolutions, simply because I have a habit of breaking them) and my first goal is to get my blogs in order. I miss this blog. I miss my tea of the month posts, I miss the Twitter chats and I miss reading other blogs too which is something I don’t do enough of. This year I want to throw myself head first into the blogging community (now is the time to run and save yourself) and I have some exciting things already planned for 2018 I would like to document. Where’s a better place to do it than my blog? 

This year, I already have two trips planned which I’m ridiculously excited about. Seriously, there was a bizarre ‘dance’ performance that took place when one of the trips was booked, much to my sister’s amusement. This year, I’m off to Tenerife in May for a little bit well deserved R&R but in August, I’m off to Colorado to stay in what I can only describe as one of the most incredible hotels I’ve ever seen. I’m honestly not sure who is more excited: me or my Instagram account, haha.

My next goal is more a selection of mini goals I’m placing under one heading: TO DO WHAT MAKES ME HAPPY. One of the ways I’m going to do that is throw myself into a fun exercise regime that will hopefully help me get fit with some sort of smile on my face. I’ve tried the whole gym thing and to be honest, it was boring as hell. So I’ve decided to take up dancing again. It’s been twenty years since my last dance class (I had to give up dancing for reasons I’d rather not discuss on my blog) but I miss dancing so much, especially tap. So I’ve ordered myself some tap shoes and found a local class running every Wednesday. Wish me luck!

As well as starting a dance class, I’ve also taken up yoga and meditation. Meditation I’ve dabbled in and out of over the years but Mr Blues swears by meditation and yoga. At first, I found meditation a little bizarre because it makes me feel the most relaxed I’ve ever felt – half the time I burst out laughing (I know that’s probably not proper meditation etiquette) but for someone who is always ‘in their head’ it’s such a relaxing feeling. As for yoga, I’ve signed up to a beginners yoga course which I’m a little bit nervous about; I’m not exactly flexible! But that’s besides the point: it’s something I’ve always wanted to do and we all start somewhere, right? I’ve already got myself a yoga mat and a glass water bottle so there’s no turning back now. I have to say, I love this water bottle. I had been using a HydrateM8 which leaked every time I put it in my bag, so it’s a revelation to have found a bottle that is lightweight, easy to drink out of and drip free. I just hope I don’t drop it! Oh, and can’t forget my maple syrup, pecans & peanuts Eat Natural bars.

So all being well, I will blog, travel, tap dance, meditate and yoga my way through 2018.  And honestly, I couldn’t be more excited.

    Always do what makes you happy angel, I know that this year will be an absolutely incredible year for you and I hope 2018 brings you everything you want in life! Yoga and meditation is absolutely amazing, it clears my mind and I feel so calm afterwards!

    I am so excited for you to get your glasses it is HUGE!!! And everyone should read your transplant posts, they are amazing and I think everyone needs to read about it (though I maybe be bias as I have the same condition).

    I can’t wait to see what this year brings you and I do hope it is more good and less yucky eyed ;).

    Sounds like you have a solid plan for the year ahead! Can’t wait to see the photos from your trips. You absolutely do not need to be flexible in order to do yoga, that’s the beautiful thing about it. It enables you to do what’s right for you and your body, no matter what your fitness or flexibility levels are! I’ve become some what of a yoga advocate this last year so keeping that up (annoyingly for some!) is my aim for this year xxx

    After quitting my two businesses when I hit a very low point and couldn’t cope anymore with nasty comments about my work, I have decided to try and reinvent myself by becoming a writer. Hopefully 2018 will be the year of a new adventure for me and I will be able to find my creativity again.

    Oooh Sarah you are incredibly brave for going through all of those stitches in your eyes, I salute you! I absolutely love craft as well so I am not surprised that your craft blog has received so much of your attention for so long, but it really is great to have you back on this one! I definitely set goals rather than resolutions as well, I find them so much more motivating. Lucky you for having a trip to Tenerife booked, I hope you have the best time! I’m off to Italy in June and I’m very excited about it! I’m so happy to hear that you are putting your happiness right at the forefront of this year, you deserve it!     It’s ok to set up small goals and then accomplish them. To be honest I like meditation but I can’t do yoga. I simply can’t get into the breathing and stretching in the same time. I actually didn’t set any goals yet for this year.

    Ooh the stitches in the eye sounds so painful but I have to say your opening sentence of tap dancing through 2018 sounds so vibrant and so energetic it has inspired me just with that line! I wish you an amazing year ahead x x
